There is now a growing popularity in the use of latent change score (LCS) modeling, which has beendifferentiated from traditional autoregressive (TAR) models. In this study, we identify the mathematicalcorrespondence between the two approaches and show how they generate the same trajectories. Weshow that either model can be used to estimate change and stability, but that some particular specifications of TAR models are required when trend (constant change) exists in the dynamic process.
