Abstract

Policy refers to the principles and decisions that guide government action, determining how resources are allocated and societal challenges addressed. Integrating health research evidence into policymaking enhances the effectiveness of public health policy. Researchers have a critical role in informing policy by effectively communicating their findings. When research informs policy, it can lead to more effective interventions, equitable resource distribution, and improved societal outcomes, ultimately translating evidence for impact. Despite the growing emphasis on research impact and its potential to inform policy, policy implications are not routinely included in health research publications. This tutorial provides an illustrated guide to support researchers in developing clear and actionable policy implications. By providing practical guidance on how to analyse the policy context, develop policy implications and identify key considerations for implementation, this tutorial aims to support the translation of research evidence for policy audiences.
