Artificial intelligence (AI) can be a powerful tool for truth-seeking. Yet, people might prefer to use AI to confirm their pre-existing beliefs, and features of AI systems (e.g., sycophancy, personalization, confident tone, and ease of use) might make AI especially effective at generating elaborate justifications for what people already — or wish to — believe.
