Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are rapidly transforming modern psychology, offering powerful tools to analyze complex data and understand human behavior. In this synthesis report, we strive to provide a comprehensive overview of AI's application across key areas - : enhancing diagnostic accuracy through analysis of diverse data types (EHRs, text, speech, non-verbal cues, physiological signals); enabling personalized and adaptive therapeutic interventions (chatbots, VR/AR); facilitating predictive modeling for early intervention (suicide risk, psychosis onset); deepening understanding via computational psychiatry (modeling cognitive processes); and extracting insights using Natural Language Processing (NLP). While highlighting significant advancements and real-world tools (e.g., Aiberry, Limbic, MoodCapture), the report also addresses critical ethical considerations, including data privacy, algorithmic bias (illustrated by a real-world case study), transparency, and the importance of maintaining the human element in care. The synergistic evolution of AI and psychology holds immense potential, but responsible development and implementation, alongside continued research into efficacy and equity, are crucial for realizing its benefits.
