This study investigates the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) - and, specifically, Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT - in career counselling processes for recent graduates of General Lyceums (GL) and Vocational Lyceums (VL). The qualitative inquiry aimed to understand how socioeconomic background and prior academic performance shape young people’s use of these digital tools when making decisions about their future. Drawing on semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis, the findings highlight a complementary relationship between AI and the human counsellor, indicating that technology can function as an innovative supportive aid that enhances youths’ autonomy while not supplanting the counsellor’s indispensable role. The study concludes that the integration of such tools must be calibrated to local social and educational conditions to ensure equitable access and effective use.
