Abstract

The Vacuum Lock Joint (VLJ) is a theoretical mechanical coupling system de- signed to deliver high-strength, tool-free connections using vacuum and electromagnetic forces, suitable for terrestrial, marine, and space environments. This paper presents a comprehensive theoretical framework for the ultimate VLJ, featuring titanium-based rods, self-healing seals, and integrated diagnostics. We provide de- tailed descriptions of each component, emphasizing their mechanical interactions and material properties. The mechanics of vacuum formation, electromagnetic locking, and sealing dynamics are rigorously modeled, supported by mathematical formulations for pressure-force relations, stress-strain behavior, magnetic fields, thermal expansion, and fatigue life. Diagnostics, simulation proposals, manufacturing considerations, and applications in robotics, marine engineering, construction, agriculture, and space technology are explored. Challenges and mitigation strategies are discussed, positioning the VLJ as a transformative platform for modular engineering systems.
