Abstract

While homeostasis to date has been defined and a common understanding exists of its conformation and how it responds to stress, there is still a need for a better understanding of how homeostasis is regained and for the boundaries defining the physiological and pathological response of tissue/microenvironment under stress. This article will focus on the underlying immunological nature of homeostasis, with emphasis on the cell's autonomous level of response and the antiinflammatory processes available at such level, that antecede the involvement of adaptative inflammatory responses to stress, allowing neat resolution of challenges without manifestations of infection, the disappearance of sensing "being wounded" and superb tissue/organ healing. A new method for eliciting such advanced resolution of tissue lesions will be introduced. Since the newly discovered healing takes place without inflammation, the stance of considering inflammation as physiological at some stage of the continuum, homeostasisstress-responseinflammation, will be questioned and the weight that inflammation bears on disease (any) mortality will be highlighted. Insights of innate immunity are presented in this paper with the aim of clarifying amazing unexploited benefits that reside within this precocious component of immunity in humans.
