Abstract

As autonomous artificial intelligence (AI) agents assume roles in health research and medical care delivery, we must ensure their advancement does not exceed the values that make care worthy of trust. This policy commentary was submitted to the Gerontological Society of America in response to the NIH’s Artificial Intelligence Strategy request for information in July 2025. It underscores the foundational role of trust and strategic pillars of medical ethics and human rights in guiding AI integration, particularly for older persons, and affirms the enduring right to be treated as a person – even when the provider is no longer human.
