Abstract

This study proposes that attachment styles can be understood through the lens of dual-process theory, wherein the interaction between System 1 and System 2 determines an individual’s approach to intimacy, emotional regulation, and decision-making in relationships.By integrating findings from cognitive neuroscience, attachment theory, and decision-making research, this study explores the underlying cognitive mechanisms that differentiate secure, anxious, and avoidant attachment styles. This framework not only provides a neural basis for attachment theory, but also has potential applications in clinical psychology, particularly in developing interventions to address maladaptive attachment behaviors.
