Abstract

Yemen's conflict has resulted in an unprecedented humanitarian crisis that has hugely exacerbated the pre-existing housing scarcity and put millions at risk of substandard living conditions. This study provides a comprehensive examination of the intricate housing crisis in Yemen, its causes, socio-economic impacts, and challenges of pioneering sustainable housing solutions within a conflict environment. Grounding its conclusions on a critical analysis of current literature, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and comparative case studies of other post-conflict regions, this research identifies determining factors to the crisis such as mass displacement, destruction of infrastructure, land tenure, and governance constraints. Further, it evaluates the impacts of current interventions and establishes a protocol for community-centered and resilient housing strategies. The evidence underscores the urgent need for such joined-up responses fusing emergency response with longer-term sustainable development and underlining the crucial contributions of international support, local people's involvement, and firm policy reforms. This study delves into advancing awareness of the Yemeni housing landscape and informing evidence-based interventions towards resilient and equitable housing solutions that contribute to recurring conflict.
