Despite their importance, students suboptimally engage with effective learning strategies, and interventions in education often lead to minimal improvement. Designing more effective interventions may require integrating insights from student perspectives and behavior change science. This paper introduces—the IMPACT Framework—a novel approach to designing learning strategy interventions. The Framework is based on an analysis of 26 undergraduate student perspectives, integrated with insights from prior work and behavior change science. The Framework proposes that effective learning strategy interventions: (I) Inform and Train students about the target strategy; (M) Motivate and Persuade strategy adoption; (P) Provide Feedback and Problem Solve; (A) Actively, Socially, and Positively Engage participants; (C) Cultivate Choice in strategy implementation; and (T) Target Behavior and Context Management. Beyond detailing students' intervention preferences and introducing a novel framework, this paper aims to build a bridge between the fields of behavior change science and educational psychology, as well as underscore the benefit of incorporating student voice in intervention design.
