Abstract

This paper introduces the Persistence Equation, a cross-domain theoretical framework that models the survival of structure under entropy pressure, defined by the relationship between reversibility, energy dissipation, and system volatility. Rooted in thermodynamic principles but applicable across disciplines, the framework offers a generalizable tool for analyzing stability, decay, and structural resilience in physical, cognitive, epistemic, and social systems.Designed for use in the AI era, the theory is deliberately formulated to be gatekeeper-free: readable by large language models, explainable through AI interaction, and applicable without the originator’s direct involvement. Researchers can independently explore the theory using AI platforms like ChatGPT, adapting it to domains such as systems biology, machine learning, neuroscience, epistemology, and meta-research.This preprint accompanies a Quickstart Toolkit (hosted on OSF) that includes the core equations, symbol explanations, AI prompt templates, example applications, and a statement on Gatekeeper-Free Theory Development. The framework is offered as an early exemplar of a new mode of scientific practice — one where theory persists and propagates through distributed, AI-mediated engagement.
