Recent concern has been raised over the lack of true innovation in our science (Chu & Evans, 2021; Press et al., 2022), deemed partly due to the difficulty with publishing it (Fortunato et al., 2018). How can we shift our scientific culture to ensure that the publication system welcomes innovative research and increases its uptake in the scientific community?
