Abstract

A scientific study conducted in Tanzania among the Hadza tribe found a relationship between love and the number of children (Sorokowski et al., 2017). Based on Sternberg's (1986) three-factor theory of love, I extended the analysis by additionally including relationship quality as a research variable. I conducted the study using an online survey, which I made available via social media. 90 people participated in it. I used the Sternberg Love Questionnaire and the Relationship Quality Assessment Questionnaire (PRQC) to measure it. The results indicate that high relationship quality is mainly related to emotional closeness (intimacy), strong commitment, and maintaining a high level of passion. However, no significant correlation was found between relationship quality and the number of children. The limitations related to the small sample and the online method, which may affect the reliability of responses, are an important factor that is worth considering. Extending the study to a larger group of people and conducting it in different cultures and countries may yield more representative and generalizable results.
