Abstract

The "One Health" concept represents a holistic approach to health that emphasizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental well-being. This commentary explores the evolution of the One Health framework, highlighting its emergence in the early 2000s and its critical relevance during the COVID-19 pandemic, which underscored the need for integrated health strategies. Key principles of One Health include interconnectedness, collaboration across disciplines, sustainability, and prevention of health crises.Challenges such as fragmented health systems, resource constraints, and the need for political commitment may hinder its implementation. Contributions from the "One Health" journal and Canadian and International initiatives that support this paradigm are introduced. Looking ahead, the future of One Health lies in strengthening interdisciplinary collaborations, enhancing surveillance systems, and fostering educational initiatives to prepare professionals for holistic health challenges. Ultimately, the One Health approach offers a sustainable pathway to address complex health issues affecting humans, animals, and ecosystems globally.
