Abstract

This article describes an applied statistics assessment built on open research data. Using the concepts of reproducibility and replicability, students analyse open data from an original study to reproduce results, analyse replication data of the original study, and argue whether they consider the results to replicate. This assessment approach targets three skills: knowledge for understanding and reproducing statistical techniques, evaluation for justifying the choice of statistical technique, and communication for reporting the conclusion of whether the original study replicates or not. I provide an example assessment built on this approach and suggest reuse potential for adapting it to your own cohort of students.
