Abstract

A cross-disciplinary framework proposing that cognition—both biological and artificial—is constrained by the system’s ability to maintain coherent signal integration. This work links intelligence, sleep, and modular AI design to a common root: the cost of synchronizing distributed processes over time. The resulting theory has implications for developmental neuroscience, architectural AI systems, and the evolutionary tradeoffs behind intelligence itself.
