Abstract

In a recent editorial in the Journal of Social Work Education, Parrish cautions that the field of social work is experiencing a peer review crisis. The crisis that she describes (e.g., rising manuscript submissions, few scholars accepting review invitations) points towards a crisis in the "labor" of peer review. In this brief response, I describe eight further current, or highly probable, peer review crises and offer suggestions for further reading. I close by making the case that social work should reconsider its current and past peer review practices and consider implementing and testing alternative models and strategies.
