The Rohingya crisis stands as one of the most severe humanitarian tragedies of the 21st century, highlighting the limitations of international legal mechanisms in addressing genocide. This paper examines the responses of the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court to atrocities against the Rohingya, identifying a persistent “impunity gap” between legal obligations and enforcement. It argues that political barriers and limited jurisdiction weaken these institutions’ effectiveness. The study further evaluates the role of Universal Jurisdiction and the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar as emerging tools for accountability, concluding that meaningful justice requires coordinated global efforts and survivor-centered approaches.
