‘’Incel Culture’’ and the Psychosocial Crisis of Contemporary Masculinity: An Interdisciplinary Analysis.

This essay explores the Incel (Involutary celibate) culture as a consequence to themanifestation of a broader psychosocial crisis affecting masculinity in general,contemporarily. Taking into consideration the influences of Sociology, psychology,Gender studies on the matter, it aims at conceptualizing how this community of peoplewithin a subcultural spectrum within the internet, implicates their lives inside thisparadigm of coexistence. Something that has long term societal implications andmental health consequences as well. By analyzing existing literature on the subject,this essay highlights the importance of economic precarity, social media alienation andshifting gender politics on the formation of Incel extremism. The paper concludes withrecommendations for policy or public therapeutic interventions that might help inaddressing male isolation and resentment.
