Abstract

This article analyzes the geopolitical ramifications of the soaring US national debt, exceeding 36 trillion USD, from a global standpoint. It examines the debt's impact on the international order, the dollar's stability, and the dedollarization trend. The study aims to assess the potential for the US debt to trigger a tectonic shift in the geopolitical landscape. It employs a two-part methodology. The first part analyzes the consequences of US debt through a literature review. The second part analyzes the latest data on US debt. This data analysis outlines the potential for inflation and currency devaluation as debt repayment mechanisms. The analysis reveals concerns about a potential debt trap, hindering economic growth and diverting crucial investments. The study further demonstrates that the rising US debt, coupled with the emergence of geopolitical alliances like BRICS+, is actively challenging the dollar's hegemony. Finally, the study concludes that the US faces a critical choice: drastic fiscal reforms for budget surpluses or the risk of hyperinflation. This decision will significantly impact the global financial system and the future of US hegemony.
