Abstract

A genealogy-based single-cell transcriptome analysis was performed for the first 10 cells in the early embryogenesis in Caenorhabditis elegans. Transcriptome differences were observed between all compared mother-daughter and sibling pairs and were also seen for the same cells at different reproductive ages. It is hoped that this unconventional way of analyzing transcriptome profiles will lead to a better understanding of the contribution of intrinsic asymmetry in cell reproduction to cell differentiation and cell fate determination in multicellular development.
