This pilot study was a retrospective chart review of 31 patients who received care at a specialist neurorehabilitation centre in the UK between April 2021 and March 2023. Patients had various types of acquired brain injuries, including traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), non-TBIs, and neurological disorders. The analysis focused on the length of hospital and rehabilitation stays, therapy hours, multidisciplinary involvement, and discharge destinations. The median duration of stay at the rehabilitation centre was 84 days, with patients receiving an average of 18 hours of therapy per week. Following their stay, patients required a range of discharge destinations and ongoing support. The study revealed the importance of the referral process and admission waiting times. Future studies should explore patient outcomes at baseline, discharge, and post-discharge follow-up and patient satisfaction to inform practice improvements and policy development.
