Abstract

The most widely used self-reported instrument for gauging workers' stress levels in the workplace is the Job Stress Scale (JSS). The psychometric properties of JSS were adapted, validated, and assessed for application in Bangladeshi culture in the current study. In accordance with the International Test Commission's recommendations for this adaptation study, the JSS was developed in an in-person survey (n = 489) and translated into Bangla. We collected data through structured interviews for employing item response theory (IRT), classical test theory (CTT), exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and measurement invariance methods. The findings of the item analysis demonstrated satisfactory factor loadings, a double-factor structure, and an appropriate item-total correlation and test-retest reliability. Excellent composite reliability and adequate internal consistency were features of this JSS. Additionally, the JSS-Bangla showed satisfactory item discrimination indices in both CTT and IRT. According to this study's nomological network validation, job stress is significantly positively associated with quantitative workload and turnover intention. For Bangladeshi workplaces, including those in the RMG sector as well as other governmental and commercial sectors, and institutions, this would be extremely beneficial.
