Abstract

This paper presents a Newton-based methodology for incorporating Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) into the power flow problem with explicit modeling of primary frequency regulation. The main contribution lies in embedding frequency-dependent behavior into the conventional formulation, enabling BESS to actively participate in frequency control. Two operating modes are considered: isolated operation and grid-connected operation alongside conventional generators. The proposed approach is implemented using a full Newton framework and validated on test systems, with results demonstrating its effectiveness and accuracy in representing frequency behavior in steady-state analysis.
