Abstract

This report describes a 33-year-old male who was initially suspected of having Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) based on radiological findings, but was ultimately diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) using the Rome IV criteria, supported by normal colonoscopy findings and inflammatory biomarkers. When symptomatic pharmacotherapy for pain, constipation, and heartburn failed to provide lasting relief, he was referred for lifestyle therapy. Dietary modification, lifestyle counselling, and physical activity constitute the mainstay of current IBS management guidelines; however, beyond these broad recommendations, patients receive little practical guidance on day-to-day decision-making and the essential elements of healthy living. To address these limitations, we implemented the 21-point Health Building Guideline alongside Yoga, delivered through a seven-step protocol employing the traffic light approach to promote and sustain behavioural change in chronic disease management. After seven months of consistent adherence to this intervention, the patient achieved remission.
