Abstract

Our study aims to identify the key factors influencing sustainable development in 23 Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries. We evaluate how these countries have implemented sustainable development in recent years, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. For this purpose we use 23 CEE countries for the period 2005–2022. The results show that environmental performance, government expenditure on education, and unemployment positively impact the Sustainable Development Index (SDI), whereas population growth has a negative effect. Additionally, we offer an overview of key factors for sustainable development, providing policymakers with valuable insights on how to further implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in these countries and align their strategies with the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
