Abstract

This study conducts a comparative analysis of gender disparities in academic achievement within the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Annual-I Examination of 2025, administered by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Abbottabad. Drawing on official result gazette data, this research critically examines performance patterns through a structured investigation of pass percentages, grade distributions, and subject-wise outcomes. The analysis specifically compares these metrics across key student categories—Regular versus Private candidates—and academic groups—Science versus Arts. The empirical findings reveal a complex and significant disparity: female students demonstrate a consistent and marked outperformance over their male counterparts within the regular candidate category, a trend that is particularly pronounced in the Science group. However, this performance gap narrows considerably and even reverses in the private candidate category. The study explores the potential socio-educational factors underlying these divergent outcomes, challenging simplistic assumptions about gender and academic performance. By synthesizing these findings, this analysis identifies critical areas for further investigation and proposes targeted policy interventions aimed at fostering more equitable educational outcomes across all student demographics.
