Background Odontogenic maxillary sinusitis (OMS) can develop from apical periodontitis (AP) of maxillary posterior teeth, known as maxillary sinusitis of endodontic origin(MSEO), because of the proximity to the maxillary sinus. The treatment of OMS remains controversial. Endodontic microsurgery plays a crucial role for treatment of AP when root canal treatment and retreatment fails. It may be effective for OMS even without otorhinolaryngology intervention. Case presentation Ten cases of MSEO undergoing endodontic microsurgery are reported at the Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University between 2022 and 2023. Clinical and radio-graphic evaluations at 24-month follow-ups demonstrated periapical healing in all cases. Conclusions Dental treatment without otorhinolaryngology intervention may be a feasible approach for OMS(MSEO).
