Abstract

Objectives : In the present study, the mechanical and tribological characteristics of Aluminium alloy reinforced with varying percentages of titanium diboride (TiB 2 ) (0, 3, 6, and 9 wt%) were evaluated, and the stir casting method was employed to fabricate the composites. Data description: A Micro-hardness analysis revealed a hardness of 102 HV for Aluminium reinforced with 9% TiB2, which was the highest among all TiB2 combinations. Increased percentage of hardness was found with the increased TiB2 percentage in Aluminium. X-ray diffraction confirmed that higher TiB2 addition had enhanced the brittleness of the composites. Tribological (three-body abrasion test) studies showed that SEM observations support the dominant wear mechanism. Finally, the obtained results indicate that Al-TiB2 composites possess improved hardness and wear resistance, making them promising materials for marine and industrial applications where three-body abrasion is found.
