Spectrum efficiency and power consumption is of great importance in the present scenario of the cognitive radio system. This work briefly discusses about the use of multi objective optimization technique for improving the spectrum efficiency and power consumption together in multi-user single relay cognitive radio system. Data packets collisions from a numbers of secondary users happen in this type of network, significantly reducing the network’s throughput which causes reduction in the spectrum efficiency of the system. This research presents a novel analytical spectrum efficiency and power consumption models for the multi-user cognitive radio network. The models make it easy to formulate optimization problem so that an optimal value of spectrum efficiency and power consumption can be achieved by using multiobjective optimization techniques. This leads to an enhancement in spectrum efficiency and minimize the power consumption as well as preserves the cognitive radio network's system reliability.
