Abstract

In recent years, efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by limiting fossil fuel use have made biomass an increasingly viable alternative. This trend is particularly evident in the Czech Republic, where subsidies for biomass combustion boilers further encourage its adoption. Pelletization has proven to be the most efficient method for producing energy-dense solid fuel from biomass. Opium poppy residues, with an annual production exceeding 200,000 tons, serve as an excellent feedstock due to their calorific value, comparable to purpose-grown energy crops (16.5 MJ/kg).
