Abstract

This research aims to study by numerical simulation the dynamic and the control of a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTB). The main characteristic of this system is that it used to produce biomass concentration (x) or a specific product concentration (P). The study of the CSTB is carried out in order to evidence the dynamic and the influence of disturbances on the regulation of the controlled variable inside the reactor. So, in this study, the controlled variable is the biomass concentration (x) and the manipulative variable is the incoming substrate concentration (S f ). The obtained results show that the PID controller can regulate the biomass concentration in the reactor at the desired set-point value despite the occurrence of strong disturbances related to the inlet biomass (x f ) concentrations.
