The Quadrant Scan (QS) method, originally developed for detecting transitions in time series, was adapted in this study to identify lithological boundaries from well log data. Although it is a relatively recent technique primarily designed for temporal datasets, it has demonstrated applicability to spatial data as well. Given the spatial nature of well logs, the method yielded effective results in detecting abrupt transitions within lithological units. However, limitations were encountered in distinguishing certain lithological boundaries. To address this, a weighting function was introduced as an additional parameter into the method. The resulting Weighted Quadrant Scan (WQS) approach provided more robust and accurate delineation of geological boundaries compared to the standard method. This enhancement broadens the applicability of the technique for spatially distributed subsurface data in geoscientific analyses.
