Abstract

Variantis is an open-source web server that provides raw substitution statistics of one-to-one pairwise sequence alignments from unaligned FASTA sequences. It provides sequence-level base-pair resolution nucleotide-substitution statistics to better understand pairwise relationships tied to sequence identity. The different rates of transitions and transversions for two closely related sequences can be used to understand sequence similarity better. This web server performs pairwise-sequence alignment for nucleotide comparisons and processes them to provide a matrix of transition/transversion ratios, an expanded nucleotide substitution matrix, and a colored representation of aligned sequence variation in a user-friendly manner. Variantis webserver is available in an open-access manner on the web at https://project.iith.ac.in/sharmaglab/variantis/
