Abstract

Despite women's better academic outcomes and their greater engagement in literature activities, there does not exist a correlation between literary involvement and public recognition in literary awards terms. Data display a global gender gap in this area, all countries show significant gender differences in recognition, with men receiving a higher proportion of literary awards than women. In order to explore this gender gap from a longitudinal and geographically-differentiated perspective, we take advantage of the Wikidata potentialities, using this rich and updated data source for addressing our research. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to display the state and trends of gender gap in literary prizes, to map the geographic distribution and evolution of this gender bias in females’ literary recognitions.
