Abstract

We read with great interest the article by Wang A et al. (1) that discussed the mechanisms facial paralysis, caused by herpes simplex virus-1, herpes zoster virus, SARS-CoV-2, human immunodeficiency virus, and Epstein Barr virus. We retrospectively analyzed the clinical presentation of patients admitted to our hospital for West Nile virus encephalitis (WNE), from 2023 to 2025. We studied the phylogeny and molecular characteristics of some of the WNV strains, through sample preprocessing, sequencing, and bioinformatic analyses performed at Don Calabria Hospital in Negrar.
