Abstract

We report a case of severe M1 UK Streptococcus pyogenes pneumonia that treated with adjunctive clindamycin therapy. In vitro, clindamycin consistently suppressed streptococcal pyrogenic exotoxin A ( speA ) expression in M1 UK , but not in M1 global , and levofloxacin had no suppressive effects, thus underscoring the important antitoxin role of clindamycin in M1 UK infections.
