This research explores user usage, motivation, and perceived impact of a mobile educational app among the group of participants. A sample of 60 subjects were observed for 4 weeks, and total use of the app was measured with app logs and self-reported interview questionnaires. Results show that regular users participate more consistently and do so for longer than infrequent users to the highest extent, with interactive functions (eg, progress monitoring and quizzes) being prevalent. As a result participants mentioned improvements and increased motivational, feeling of improvement in their learning outcomes. Moreover, comparing various groups of users showed that high frequency of app used is associated with good user engagement and learning improvement. Such results offer practical implications for the design and enhancement of mobile learning system applications to improve user engagement and for the practical delivery of instruction in user-generated learning.
