The effects of platelet rich plasma on healing of seawater immersion burn in rabbit

Objiective To investigate the effects of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on healing of seawater immersion burn wound in rabbits. Method Seawater immersion burn model in rabbits was achieved by heating copper tube and seawater. 48 New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into two groups ( group A and group B). Group A implanted nothing, and group B implanted PRP. The healing of seawater immersion burn wound in rabbits was detected by microscopic observation, histology, and immunohistochemistry, ELISA, and qPCR. Result The wound healing rate in the group B was significantly increased compared with group A. Compared with the group A, the rate of CD31-positive cells in group B was increased, while the contents of TNF-α and IL-1β were significantly decreased. The mRNA levels of VEGF, and PDGF in group B were evidently increased. Conclusion PRP can promote seawater immersion burn wound healing in rabbits by increasing the positive cell rate of CD31, upregulating the expression of VEGF, and TGF-β1 protein in wound tissue, and decreasing the contents of TNFα and IL-1β.
