Objective : Sarcopenia greatly affects the quality of life in older adults. However, large-scale studies examining risk factors for postoperative sarcopenia in elderly patients after hip fracture surgery are currently insufficient. This study aimed to determine the incidence of sarcopenia following hip fracture surgery in elderly patients and identify associated risk factors. Methods : This retrospective study included elderly patients hospitalized for hip fracture surgery between September 2024 and March 2025. We assessed risk factors for postoperative sarcopenia. Results : The study comprised 325 patients, with 264 developing postoperative sarcopenia, resulting in an incidence rate of 81.23%. The average sarcopenia score was 5.01 ± 1.61. Significant differences (P < 0.05) in sarcopenia occurrence were linked to factors such as age, marital status, educational attainment, living arrangement, exercise habits, masticatory function, number of chronic diseases, and serum albumin levels. Regression analysis identified age, educational level, serum albumin levels, and masticatory function as independent risk factors for sarcopenia. Conclusion: This study highlighted several significant risk factors for sarcopenia in elderly patients post-hip fracture surgery. These findings offer valuable insights for enhancing clinical management strategies to mitigate postoperative sarcopenia.
