Abstract

Objectives This study aimed to assess the prevalence of Class V carious lesions among Tehran residents and lifestyle habits of the affected individuals. Materials and Methods This cross-sectional study evaluated 450 patients with Class V carious lesions who were selected among those presenting to dental clinics in different districts of Tehran in 2025 by stratified cluster sampling. Data were collected through a clinical dental examination and using a valid and reliable questionnaire. Statistical analysis was conducted by the independent t-test, Chi-square test, and Fisher’s exact test (alpha = 0.05). Results The mean age of the participants was 38.18 ± 14.35 years (range 15 to 76 years). The prevalence of Class V lesions was 35.8% in the study population, and the majority of patients had two teeth with Class V carious lesions. Maxillary right second premolar, maxillary left first premolar, and mandibular right second molar teeth had the highest frequency of Class V lesions (6.4%). The frequency of Class V lesions was significantly associated with age and level of education of patients (P = 0.002). Conclusion According to the results, the occurrence of Class V lesions depends on personal factors in addition to biological parameters. Raising public awareness, promotion and modification of oral hygiene practices, and paying attention to sleep patterns and use of digital equipment may be effective to decrease the prevalence of Class V lesions.
