To explore the effect of imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) on the oxidation characteristics and gas products of lignite during oxidation. The spectral positions of the CO, CO 2 , and H 2 O gases were determined, and the peaks were discussed and compared. The kinetic parameters were calculated and the kinetic response mechanism was determined. The results show that ILs can increase the physical adsorption capacity of the coal sample during the low temperature oxidation, and can effectively inhibit the reaction in the stage of water evaporation and desorption weight loss. It hardly inhibiting oxidation and could also aggravate the reaction process during the combustion. The critical temperature, ignition temperature ( T 6 ), maximum weight loss rate increased by 8.9°C, 11.5°C, 25.7°C, dry cracking temperature, active temperature decreased by 18.0°C, 5.6°C, respectively. The temperature difference gradually decreases, which between the ILs treated coal and the raw coal before the T 6 . The onset temperature and the end temperature of CO 2 and CO from the treated samples were increased at 2192–2180 cm –1 and 2123–2103 cm –1 . The apparent activation energy increases and the oxidation model changes during the evaporation and thermal decomposition.
