Abstract

For neutron detectors used in high-flux neutron beams, dense and uniform 238 U coatings are prepared by electrodeposition using natural uranium on 2µm-thick aluminized mylar foils. The mylar foils with a thickness of µm have a certain degree of ductility and a low neutron reaction cross-section, which can effectively reduce interference signals. Accurate Quantification of 238 U coatings is conducted using a specially designed small solid angle device and a grid ionization chamber, respectively. The results show that the weights of 238 U in coatings are 0.335mg and 0.310mg, with relative uncertainty of 1.02%-1.09% and consistent within the uncertainties.
