Abstract

During the Covid-19 epidemic: a qualitative study Due to the high number of victims and the measures taken to contain the pandemic, Covid-19 has impacted the experiences of the bereaved. The aim of this study was to investigate the bereavement experiences of people who lost their loved ones during the Covid-19 pandemic. To this end, a qualitative method was used for the research design. The data for this study was collected using a semi-structured in-depth interview. The research population includes people who were admitted to Masih Daneshvari Hospital who were infected with Covid-19 and lost a loved one. The study sample consisted of 19 survivors of Covid-19 who were purposively and voluntarily selected until the saturation point was reached. The data was analyzed using the content analysis approach and using the method of Graneheim, & Lundman (2004). The criteria of Guba, & Lincoln (1989) were also used for the validity of the data. Study participants described various factors that contributed to the grieving process during the Covid-19 pandemic. These factors were divided into two main categories: individual and social risk factors and individual and social protective factors. According to the research results, the risk factors prevent adaptation to bereavement and the protective factors act as a shield against bereavement.
