Solar photovoltaic panels are installed on building roofs for power generation in many Chinese cities. however, their impact on flow field and pollutant dispersion remains unclear. This study numerically investigates the influence of solar photovoltaic panels on airflow and carbon monoxide (CO) dispersion within idealized 2D urban street canyon models under the parallel approaching wind to the streets. The installation of solar photovoltaic panels alters the flow field and reduces the concentration of air pollutants in the street canyon. The presence of solar panels promotes the formation of flow patterns that are more favorable for pollutant dispersion and facilitating the transport of pollutants out of the street canyon. The existence of solar panels increase the wind velocity at pedestrian level hight and along building facades on both street canyon sides and enhances ventilation capacity in street canyon that strengthens air pollutant diffusion. The impact of solar panels on velocity and air pollutant diffusion diminishes with increase of the installation angle.
