Abstract

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into cybersecurity has garnered substantial attention from researchers, practitioners, and pol- icymakers. AI techniques provide promising capabilities for enhancing defensive mechanisms but simultaneously introduce novel vulnerabilities. This paper offers a comprehensive review of the current literature on AI’s dual role in cybersecurity, examining both the advanced threats facili- tated by AI technologies and the innovative solutions they enable. We discuss key areas where AI enhances attack strategies through automa- tion, sophistication, and stealth, posing significant challenges to existing security paradigms. Conversely, we explore AI-powered tools for threat detection, prevention, and response, highlighting their potential to trans- form cybersecurity operations. By synthesizing recent advancements, this review identifies critical gaps and proposes future directions for research and implementation of AI in cybersecurity. The paper concludes by dis- cussing ethical considerations and the necessity for robust frameworks to govern AI’s role in maintaining resilient and secure digital ecosystems.
