Abstract

The rapid integration of generative artificial intelligence, particularly ChatGPT, is reshaping cultural and social landscapes globally, with East Asia emerging as a critical site of transformation. This study examines the role of ChatGPT in modern East Asian life and its potential to ignite a cultural revolution by bridging tradition and modernity. Using a mixed-method approach that combined exploratory data analysis, ANOVA testing, clustering, natural language processing, and regression modeling, the research explored themes of helpfulness, safety, cultural resonance, and intellectual hybridity across multiple East Asian locales. The results indicate strong cultural variance in user interactions, with Japanese and Korean users emphasizing functional utility, while Chinese and Hong Kong users highlighted sociocultural adaptation and identity negotiation. Topic modeling and cluster analyses identified that ChatGPT is embedded within broader cultural debates about authenticity, modernity, and global influence. Importantly, the study found that ChatGPT contributes to both intellectual enrichment and cultural disruption, positioning it as a catalyst for rethinking identity and knowledge structures in East Asia. The findings suggest that ChatGPT is not simply an AI platform but a socio-cultural force capable of shaping the next wave of intellectual and cultural movements in the region.
