Abstract

Aim: ​ To validate the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the "Patient-Centered Communication Scale for Nurses," enabling effective assessment of nurses' patient-centered communication skills in China. Design: ​ A cross-sectional descriptive observational study. Methods: ​ The study recruited 359 bedside nurses from hospitals across China. A standardized validation process included translation, Delphi analysis for content validity, and assessments of reliability and validity. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were conducted to evaluate construct validity. Results: ​ The Chinese version demonstrated strong internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha coefficients: 0.915, 0.896, 0.803 for the three factors, respectively). Test-retest reliability (ICC) was 0.797. Content validity was robust, indicated by an S-CVI/Ave of 0.974. EFA extracted three factors explaining 61.10% of total variance, and the confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) indicated a good model fit (χ²/df = 2.004, CFI = 0.977, TLI = 0.969, RMSEA = 0.071), supporting the structural validity of the scale.. Conclusion: The Chinese version of the "Patient-Centered Communication Scale for Nurses" is both reliable and valid, providing a valuable instrument for evaluating patient-centered communication skills among nurses in China.
