Influence of medical students' occupational calling on career constructs: mediation based on teacher-student interaction behaviours and sense of meaning in life

Abstract

Background: With the advancement of healthcare reform, the identity of the medical profession decreases, and the number of people working in the medical career will continue to decrease. Against this background, how to enhance the medical talent pool and recast medical students' identification with the medical profession has become an important issue. Purpose and Methods: Using the questionnaire of 823 medical students in Zhuhai City as the research data, this paper aims to explore the correlation between medical students' occupational calling, teacher-student interaction behaviors, the meaning of life, and career constructs. Result: The results show that there is a positive correlation between a sense of career mission and career construct; teacher-student interaction behavior has a mediating role between a sense of career mission and career construct; sense of the meaning of life has a mediating role between sense of career mission and career construct; and there is a chain mediating role of teacher-student interaction behavior and sense of meaning of life between sense of career mission and career construct, which further confirms the sense of career mission's individual career development Importance of career mission in individual career development. Conclusion: Individuals with a strong sense of career mission are more likely to participate in teacher-student interactions actively, seek personal growth, and explore the path of career construction. These findings are instructive for understanding the internal mechanisms of career development and educational practices. At the same time, we propose specific measures to increase students' sense of career mission and promote teacher-student interaction.
